Same-Day Sick Visit Q & A

What conditions require a same-day sick visit?

Children’s less-developed immune systems, hygiene habits, and constant contact with others mean they’re incredibly susceptible to infections and illnesses. It’s normal for a child to feel fine one day and wake up with symptoms the next morning that require a sick visit.

The three providers at Pedi Place @ Westover Hills offer sick visits to treat common childhood infections, including the following:

  • Colds, flu, and COVID-19
  • Ear and eye infections (including pink eye)
  • Strep throat
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Unexplained rashes

Sometimes, you need a same-day sick visit to address an acute problem unrelated to a specific illness. If your child has an asthma flare-up, severe constipation, a migraine, or an allergic reaction, please contact our office to get them the care they need.

What symptoms indicate that my child would benefit from a same-day sick visit?

You don’t have to schedule a visit for every runny nose, cough, or mild fever. But, when symptoms escalate, or you’re just concerned about your child’s symptoms, it’s smart to contact our office.

The Pedi Place @Westover Hills recommends you schedule an appointment if your child is showing symptoms such as:

  • Refusing food or drink
  • Diarrhea and/or vomiting
  • Signs of dehydration
  • Listlessness
  • Loss of interest in playing or their usual activities
  • Sore throat
  • Rash

A fever of more than 100.4 degrees for children younger than three months definitely requires a same-day visit. An older child with a fever of 102.2 or higher also needs immediate attention.

Contact the office if you’re unsure about your child’s symptoms and whether they require a sick visit. The friendly staff can help you determine whether you should come in or continue with home care.

Are same-day sick visits always available?

At Pedi Care @ Westover Hills, the team makes every effort to always have same-day visits available. The staff reserves appointments every day to provide this unexpected, immediate care.

The providers recognize that it’s preferable for your child to visit a familiar doctor when they’re feeling unwell rather than head to urgent care or the emergency room.
